The Atlanta Renegades posted a pair of big wins in their USA Rugby D-1 “Sweet 16” and “Elite 8” matches in Columbia SC this past weekend, beating New York Old Blue 37-10 on Saturday May 16, 2009, and Detroit Tradesmen 24-17 on Sunday May 17, 2009, to earn a berth in the “Final 4” the weekend of May 30-31, 2009 in Glendale CO.
Coach Rod Seddon congratulated his players on their heart and for the big win, commenting that he was proud of their effort and that if the team continues to work hard and follow the game plan, that the Renegades can still continue to improve. Links to the match writeups are available from our Schedule/Results page.
In the other eastern Elite 8 game, Pearl City (IA) pretty much dominated Atlanta Old White for the first 75 minutes, winning 41-11 in a match that was never in doubt, although Old White showed good pluck in taking it to Pearl City for the last 5 minutes of the match, scoring 8 points near the end off of a drop kick and a well-played try.
Next up for the Renegades is the trip to the Denver suburb of Glendale CO, for the Gades first-ever trip to the USA Rugby D-1 Final 4, where we will play the former Super League and D-1 champion Gentleman of Aspen in one semi-final, while Pearl City takes on Las
Vegas in the other semi-final. Needless to say, with the last minute costs of airfare, hotel rooms for multiple nights, local transportation, and other travel expenses for a squad of up to 28 players and Coach Seddon for the event, after the expenses of a spring season that is already into its 5th month, the Renegades would appreciate the financial or other support of any players, old boys, family, sponsors, or other supporters that may be able to contribute
in some way, big or small. Any one wishing to make a contribution may send a check payable to the “Atlanta Renegades, RFC” to 1400 Buford Highway, Suite G-5, Sugar Hill, Georgia 30518-8727, or by Paypal to treasurer@atlantarenegades.com; thank you in advance for your support!
